Witnessing the Vogue Apple Blossom

Geraniums seeds germinated in 5 days, so I thought this plant was a fast grower.  I was WRONG! These, in fact, grow so slowly that I eventually stopped paying attention, but if I see the pictures in the last entry from January, it sure has grown bigger.  Even better, I found buds!

Can you see the buds?

Close-up.  Can you see the buds?

Single petaled pale pink flowers opened on the 181st day after seeding.  By the way, according to the seed package, the color is indicated as "Vogue Apple Blossom" - so I was expecting to see darker color.

Geranium in January

Wow, it's been way too long since I made the last entry.  It's time for me to catch up a little bit.

It's been unusually rainy this year in San Diego, and I like it.  I think my plants are liking the 'natural water' much better than the water out of faucet.  Out of 6 seeds I sowed, 3 Geranium plants survivided by now.  Two just died, and the one I planted in the ground were beat by one heavy rain.

74 days from seeding.  They look happy in these pots.  I will wait until they get a little bit bigger and stronger to plant them in the ground.  Click here to see how they looked like back in November!

Geranium is a Fast Growing Plant.

It has been a little over 2 weeks since the last entry.  Geraniums are growing pretty fast!

38 Days after seeding, I found a tiny third true leaf coming out.  These leaves are quite small - even smaller than a penny.

4 days after the first picuture, and 42 days after seeding.  The newest true leaf is growing fast, and I see a new bud of leaf coming out of the tip of the stem.  They are tiny, but the purple markings are visible.

Truely a True Leaf

4 out of the 6 seeds I planted survived transplant to bigger pots.  21 days later, one of the seedlings showed one true leaf!

The true leaf is tiny, but it has the distinctive marking already.  I touched the leaf and sniffed the smell...yeah, this is the smell I used to hate.  Now that I am growing it, I don't mind the smell anymore :)

Geraniums, 1 week.

One week has passed since the last entry, and all 6 seeds I planted germinated.  They are doing very well, and in fact, this plant seems to grow the fastest amont all other ones I planted.

Roots are already growing out of the peat pallettes, so I will have to transplant these seedlings to pots sometime soon....

Geranium

My mom had Geraniums in our yard, and I didn't like the plant because the leaves smelled funny.  However, as I see them in my neighborhood, I must admit the flowers are pretty.

I bought a packet of seeds that was on sale from an online seed retailor called Thompson & Morgan.

These are the Geranium seeds that I bought.  Don't they kind of look like little bugs?!  I will plant all 6 and see how many will germinate.

2 of the 6 seeds I planted on 10/17 already germinated on 10/22.  It took only 5 days!
